It's a nice little instrument. I first calibrated it using distilled water, it was off by a little, which I corrected with the screw driver that was included. To test it's accuracy, I mixed a 5% (5 BRIX) sugar solution using a precision digital scale to weight the sugar and water. The reading was a hair under the 5 BRIX mark, this is impressive. I am using it to measure TDS (total dissolved solids) when pulling espresso coffee. I note that the line is a bit fuzzy ie. not a precise line when taking a reading, however this is not really an issue as I suspect that all other refractometers behave in the same way. I would recommend this unit. It came in a sturdy plastic box for storage.
