Works, but probably not as well as just an old front derailleur. There is no fine tuning of the position and the locking system is just a bolt that digs into another part of the guide. Luckily I didn’t do it up tightly until after all the trial and error of positioning. Since then, my chain has not come off. It does skip occasionally, which it never did with the derailleur
