Did not figure out whether I really need them. But they're cool if you want to be more gentle with watering. Be aware that the water doesn't stop dripping even when the soil is fully staturated with moisture. I got mold in my succulent pot.. It takes ~10 minutes for water to completely drip out of the small one. They're also plastic.
