it makes impossible into possible :) Don't have big illusions - it won't make your old laptop into shiny gaming station; however - it does what it promises - it brings option for external GPU with its benefits. Attached photo of my setup for my son : its Lenovo m700 tiny pc with M.2 cable to EXP GDC - works great with Nvidia 1050Ti; CPU is i3-6100T - CPU (generation) is one thing you need to think carefully if that EXP GDC will perform: - in this situation CPU is 6th generation, which PCI Express link-capacity is 8 GT/s (3rd version of PCIE) : same speed as Nvidia 1050Ti speed is. However M.2 connection width is only x1 of x16 this GPU could take. So that's the maximum : 8GT/s x1 line * 128/130 encoding = 0.985 GB/s. You can read about PCI Express speeds and generations on Wikipedia.

I wanted to have same experience on my old x230 laptop with Expresscard model. It worked as well (my Son's model was M.2), but I was a bit disappointed as its was not performing so great as on son's PC. So I started to dig into details: CPU is i5-3210M : (3rd generation), here PCIE is only 2nd generation, with capacity 5GT/s, and encoding 8/10. Maximum throughput is 5GT/s x1 line * 8/10 encoding = 0.500 GB/s : its twice less comparing to son's PC. Anyway : I still can play CS:GO, and other games, just with some less detailed graphics; So - its not EXP GDC connection issue (like M.2 vs Expresscard, or smth) - its only your hardware limitations. Resume: Choose carefully your hardware before - make your homework, calculations.
