I don't think of these dolls as being a cheap alternative to Barbie - they aren't really like Barbie, but they have a charm of their own. The hair rooting isn't super detailed, but the dolls are very pretty, and it's much easier to get bodies that are a good skin tone match for these doll heads than it is for Barbie heads.
