I had planned on using the device to get the audio from my TV to play on my (old) surround system. So I plugged it into the TV's HDMI port that is marked ARC, short for "audio return channel". Supposedly, that would work. After all, that's what ARC is for. However, so far no luck. I don't know if it's an issue with this audio converter (that it doesn't correctly identify itself as an A/V receiver) or with my (2012) Samsung TV. The two devices do have to communicate with each other for this to work as intended.
