I am not sure if it is the same as D3O most pieces look the same of what I saw in videos just the back piece seems to be too "fooamy" compared to what I saw on video, but I am not an expert. Either way it should protect more than most back protections seems is pretty thick and the structure somehow seems adecuate to absorb impact
