works well for hard and semi-hard cheeses. I even managed to use it for a soft mozzarella cheese. Be careful not to press to hard while shredding, as it pay cause small piece of the plastic to shred off and become mixed with the cheese. On some occasions, the blade also fell out, and I had to reassemble the device before I could continue.
