this isn't a proper hiking backpack. The waist straps are thin with very cheap plastic buckles... and all straps aren't made to lock firmly. a heavy backpack needs to support (at least some) its weight on the waist but this one will hurt the shoulders. The top compartment doest have a zipper to seal it from weather... so rain will get in I do not recommend this backpack for the serious hiker.
