Only does three colors: red, blue and green unlike the colors suggested on the remote.

The LEDs are not RGB. There are separate LEDs for each of the Red Green Blue colors. In this specific case I would suggest to use the strip in a way that you cannot directly see it. It works perfect for backlights.
