There was a slight variance in the lens cap compared to the original Nikon lens cap. The lip of the lens cap is a bit further from the three teeth. Therefore it was hard to screw the lens cap on a lens - I tested it with two different lenses and compare the lens cap with the original Nikon lens cap. Sanding the lip of the lens cap fixed the issue. Most likely applying more force to the lens cap would have also worked. The variance in the lens cap could be limited to a batch of lens caps of just this particular lens cap.
